Pink Floyd - Delicate Sound of Thunder (1988) Review

Shit the bed....today is flying! Let's land this baby with a bump! And a bump it is....
....in at #n29 is the mighty Floyd with their CDs full of live stuff!

Delicate Sound of Thunder is their first entirely live album. It was recorded over five nights at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, New York in August 1988 and mixed at Abbey Road Studios in September 1988. It was released on 22 November 1988, through EMI Records in the United Kingdom and Columbia Records in the United States.

The band recorded and filmed their series of shows at the Omni Coliseum in Atlanta, Georgia in November 1987 for a potential live concert film and album. The band, however, were not happy with the results. Consequently, the material from these shows would make up videos and B-sides for the A Momentary Lapse of Reason singles and later these shows were released as bootleg recordings entitled Pink Floyd: The Calhoun Tapes and Would You Buy a Ticket to This Show. Then in August 1988, the band went to Nassau Coliseum and filmed and recorded their five night stand at the end of the initial Momentary Lapse 1987/88 tour.

Reading up on this I found that many critics ( everyone loves a critic huh!) did not rate this album too highly. Not being a Floyd fan, I can honestly say my opinion wouldnt count but, what I know about Floyd is that they are an experience to see live. I know people that saw them live and say it's one of the best things they have 'SEEN'. Thia is the thing that live albums cannot capture. The experience visually, as well as the atmosphere and loudness of the band. When you get a live band, such as Floyd, the main components of being live is lost on CD or vinyl.

Do you agree? Is this placing a good one or is it 'bloody hell, just cause its Floyd doesn't make it any good'?

That's me done until the weeks end. I'm off to check out
Omar 's poll rival on the Worst Rock Albums Ever group!
Until then, keep the soul a rockin'...
